Host a Project-based Internship

You may have projects that seem to sit on your desk that you never have enough time to tackle. The CBP is always looking for Project-based Internship hosts. Project-based Internships are meant to be an educational experience for the Scholars, but at the same time provide value to the host organization.  The most successful projects are projects that fit within in the host’s goals, mission, and future interests. CBP faculty will work with you to identify and outline a specific project within your organization as well as suggest possible research that the Scholar will conduct prior to the start of the internship experience.  As a host organization you will provide the Scholar with the opportunity to fulfill their objectives of the internship and in return will receive a meaningful and useful project outcome. Toward that end, the expectations for the host organization include:

• Work with CBP faculty to define relevant research appropriate to project in advance of internship.
• Be a mentor to the Scholar working on your project.
• Set clear goals, deadlines and expectations for the project.
• Meet regularly with the Scholar(s) and communicate regarding project progress and provide feedback.
• Communicate and meet with CBP faculty during the project-based internship if logistically possible.
• Provide evaluation of work as well as suggestions for additional examples of accomplishments.
• Answer questions and provide guidance on project and other work related issues.
• Introduce Scholars to other functional areas and individuals within the organization.
• Where a supervisor is utilized, assure that supervisor provides ample time to train and answer questions from the CBP Scholar.
• Complete mid-session and final Scholar internship evaluation form.
• Attend the Scholar public presentation during fall term if logistically possible.
